Chisel - Final Post GRADUATION POST
Didn’t really give Chisel 100% due to other commitments but HIIT is definitely a great weapon to add to my fitness arsenal. Look forward to using the cycle workouts in the future - especially when travelling.
Friends in town so a busy weekend socialising and not too good on the food (and drink)! Still using the cycle workouts to supplement my PT which I’m really enjoying.
All good from a health and fitness perspective but not finding it that easy to combine Chisel with all my other activities. I think you have to make Kenzai your main focus to keep up with blogs, lessons etc.
Managed an A and a B again last week which helped me further understand HIIT techniques.
Optional indulgence was well timed as I’d been out for dinner on the Tues night so was a relief to see that appear on Weds morning! Kept it relatively clean - steak, broccoli, glass of red wine and a few fries.
Only managed one of each Cycle A&B workouts last week. Was hoping to do 4 plus my usual 3 PT sessions but think I over stretched myself by signing up for a free Class Pass trial too. Did loads of different workouts around town (rebounding, Zumba, barre, dancefit and boxing) but didn’t leave much time for chiselling. However, i’m enjoying learning about HIIT and being back in the Kenzai community. Will have the knowledge and workouts in my toolkit for the future so feeling ok about it.
Was it just me or was today’s cycle A much easier than last week’s? Maybe i’m just getting fitter?? Let’s hope so!
Spoke too soon about my levels of compliance! Weekend has been a perfect example of alcohol consumption having a huge impact on healthy living beyond the drinks consumed!
Champagne brunch for a good friends 40th on Friday. All my good intentions went out of the window after the first 2 glasses of bubbles and I proceeded to eat and drink with gay abandon. Made it home in one piece but the evidence in the kitchen this morning suggested I had consumed a small feast before heading to bed. Terrible hangover today so no exercise other than a walk this evening and lots of carbs to ease the nausea. Back on it tomorrow with PT at 6am!
The picture says it all - i’m in the black and white dress dancing to YMCA I think!
Got the dreaded blog reminder this morning! Sorry team. All going well with my intended plan for Chisel. Managed all 4 HIIT workouts last week and on track for 4 this week. Diet has been pretty good considering i’ve been at a conference for the last 2 days. Managed to resist all the mini sandwiches and cookies which are my usual downfall!
Did the Day 2 workout today as I have PT Sun, Tues, Thurs so will do the A/B cycles on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat. Really enjoying them so far and nice change to do some jumping around and get back to the skipping. Got tempted by some chocolate covered rice cakes in a meeting. 😞 However, there was much worse rubbish available so I think damage limitation was pretty good.
My first Kenzai programme in 18 months. Signed up with a PT in preparation for my sister’s wedding last August and after a false start with a trainer that I didn’t gel with I finally found an excellent coach who helped me reach my goal. We’re still training together 3 times a week but I was starting to miss the group camaraderie of Kenzai. Decided to sign up for Chisel and see if I can make it work alongside my other commitments. Current plan is to substitute my PT sessions for the strength training days but make sure I get all the HIIT cycle workouts and cardio sessions done.
Arrived back from holiday last night and only got to bed at 3am. Challenging day with a leak in the kitchen, car to pick up from the garage and thousands of emails and meetings waiting for me at the office. Managed to fit everything in and left the office at 5.30 to get to the supermarket. Quickly changed into my kit, did this week’s photo and the workout and finally had dinner. Now time for bed and a 5am wake up call for the gym. Phew!! Hopefully not too many more days like that in the next 6 weeks.
With my sister's wedding looming on 10th August and no 12 week plan fitting into my timescales I decided to be unfaithful to Kenzai and signed up for a 12 week transformation plan with a personal training gym. 4 weeks in and thought I'd report back on the experience.
Cost - at 10 times the cost of KB1 it's not cheap!
Diet - similar to Kenzai but no carbs other than large servings of veg at each meal, fruit restricted to one portion a day and much higher protein grams. I track everything on MFP vs macro targets. Like being able to eat real food in the evenings - much easier to fit into real life than egg white dinners.
Workouts - focus is on HEAVY weights and I sometimes struggle to understand the benefit. All I seem to do is hurt my arms from gripping or pulling so hard but don't get the full range of motion to really work the muscle? We generally do 3 sets of 6 exercises in the hour. No cardio, abs or stretching so seems less complete than a Kenzai workout. However, I do have to log 10,000 steps a day and add 2 30min cardio sessions in addition to the 3 PT sessions. This has been positive and has made me more active overall.
Community - I though it would be a good way to get out and meet new people but everyone is engrossed in their own training so not very sociable. I also don't really like the brands 'tone of voice' if that makes sense. A bit too macho for me!
Convenience - I have to drive 30mins each way to the gym versus popping downstairs to the well equipped gym in my building.
Results - so far the results are similar to what I typically see with the KB programmes.
Verdict - I had assumed the personal one-to-one service would deliver some magical benefits but as always there is no answer other than more exercise and less food! Will complete the 12 weeks but not sure it will be a long term option for me.
Moral of the story - Kenzai rules!!
Signed up for Chisel starting on 7th May so decided to do Week 1 of Reboot to practice my skipping and give my body a rolling start. Always good to have a daily workout to complete - keeps me on track. Have also been good with my diet all week but went out for dinner last night and decided to treat myself to rhubarb crumble and custard. As usual it wasn't as good as anticipated and my stomach hurt afterwards. We all know clean food tastes and feels the best so why are we so tempted by the rubbish??
KRun - Final Blog GRADUATION POST
Can't really call this a graduation blog as I haven't been able to run properly for the last 4 weeks. However, I have enjoyed the reminder on running technique in the lessons and it was interesting to see the slight differences between KRun and Run 10K. The hamstring is slowly improving and it seems the issue is actually coming from tightness in my hip.
Unfortunately the hamstring is still giving me trouble after lots of rest so think I'll have to head to the physio to get it checked out. Tried a short run on Friday but had to stop after 10mins and walk back home. Will keep up with strength workouts and diet this week but will have to make up the 10K another time.
Ended up taking 2 days off work sick last week with the kidney infection and spent both days mainly in bed or on the sofa. Finally started to feel better and then flew to Penang Thurs night to meet a friend for the weekend. As a result I only managed the strength workouts and a 5.6km hike up Penang Hill. Hadn't quite realised how steep it would be - we climbed 165 floors!! Food wasn't great as Penang is know for it's amazing cusine so wanted to try everything. Back on it tomorrow for the last 2 weeks.
On top of the sore hamstrings I now have a kidney infection. 😞
Antibiotics seem to be kicking in slowly but are making me feel nauseous along the way.
Just taking it easy and hoping I'll be back on track soon.
