Graduation Post...the Thank Yous

  • Nov 18th, 2019 at 3:08AM

At graduation I always am reminded of a book I would read to my Kindergarten Parents: It Takes A Village. In their case I encouraged them to look around at other parents who would be teachers, coaches, Church teachers, Scout Leaders who would support their kids from Kindergarten to High School. In our case, our incredible leadership team of Ward and Patrick who were always there to accommodate our injuries and body foibles, their humor and experience and just the knowledge they were there makes our village pretty special.. In this class of graduates the big thank yous go to our blogging team. Everyone was so supportive, kind and helpful. No crankypants seniors here! Progressing together was essential to our success. My biggest take away in Kenzai promotes the village and was often surprised by a comment from a former classmate and other Kenzai folks. As I first began doing Kenzai I was encouraged by family and in fact motivated by them. Though of course they still motivate me, I am realizing the end of my life has to do with luck and a willingness to be a self motivated active proponent of my own health. So let's go forth propelled into our next adventures with information, activity and wellness. Oh, and by the way, for you who don't know this, I must thank Kenzai for offering me an opportunity to share an activity with my son and listen to all your sweet comments about him. Our esteemed leader, Ward, is my oldest child.

What wonderful words Barbara: and now I know where Ward gets his good humour and kindness from!
It’s been a real privilege to be on this program with you x

Great graduation send-off Barbara! Wish I had heard your powerful words years ago so I could have used the same ‘village’ concept at my last kindergarten graduatiion! Its been great being on the Kenzai team with you......
I always looked forward to reading your blogs that were encouraging, motivating and empathetic. Both my kids, jesse and josh know and greatly admire your son, Ward! Hope to ‘meet’ you again soon....probably thru our Kenzai connection. Stay well😊

Barbara W, I look at you a little different now...the Mom of Ward. You did a stellar job raising that fantastic person (working on my gender neutral). He is the best trainer ever. Tracy and I were in the summer and took a side trip to Portland just to meet Ward in person. We had coffee together in a hip coffee house, have forgotten name. It was sweet and short visit. Jane

Oh yes, weight down 8 pounds, knees so so much better (they love most workouts except for long weight bearing) and I've got muscles I can see. Party on!

Barb, you are a person of wisdom and humor. You remind us, as does Kenzai to be "active proponents of our own health". Proud mom, you have done a great job with our esteemed leader, funny and just an all round great guy. Thanks for your support.
P.S. I am adding "crankypants" to my repertoire.

Welp. I've been outed. Hehe. We would have tipped our hand sooner had we just posed for a photo revealing the matching Scottish family crest tattoos we have on our backs. Your way is likely less disturbing!

Seriously though. What a lovely and thoughtful final reflection, mom. You are always up for anything. Kenzai. Or otherwise. That kind of open-minded and open-heartedness is truly rare. You exude it. One love and egg whites. Silver COMPLETE!

Thanks for those wise and loving words in your graduation Barbara!
Reading your blogs often gave me that feeling of a young person still so much to learn from your life experiences. Having the courage of joining a program with your son Ward as a trainer! We used to say don't do business with family but I guess it also shows the power of your family relations. Take Care and I hope to meet you both in another Kenzai program again!
