weekend update and hello

  • Oct 22nd, 2018 at 9:44AM

So technical and distance runs went okay but I felt slow, sluggish and a little defeated. And I stopped a few times today. Sigh. I'm Ellie from Brooklyn, NY, an ex-distance runner trying to get back in the groove. I slowed down on regular running 4 years ago when I moved to HK (way too hot and humid for me and no sidewalks to boot--massive respect for you HKers who are doing it). But I dragonboated, yoga-ed, went to gym and was intro'd to Kenzai so maintained fitness. Since moving back to states, well not so much. I did KRun in early summer to ease back into it, followed it with Reach to stretch it all out and now hoping to recapture even just a shadow of the runner I used to be. But I'm also just back in workforce after a few years of stay-at-home-mom time and transition is, um, difficult. Anyway, start where you are is what the Buddhists say. Om to that. Looking forward to running with all of you.

Day by day Ellie! I can't imagine balancing all that you do! But I'm also pretty sure you are a person who thrives a bit on the chaos!

You’re right about no sidewalks in HK, and so hilly!! Looking forward to training with you, Ellie!

Transitions/moves are tough, but sounds like you've got a solid plan. Enjoy smashing those long, flat Brooklyn sidewalks!
      Start where you are...oooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I love it when you said "Om to that." Hahahah brilliant way to approach it all! Looking forward to seeing you get back into that long distance groove!

You are dealing with alot of change in your life... professionally, personally with the move etc. Be gentle to yourself. Keep channeling your inner mule. The most important thing is to show up for your Kenzai runs ... and you are doing that. Your determination to keep at it is inspiring.

The best thing about not having a good first run is that all the good ones are still ahead!

You may feel down and a bit defeated but you did the runs. You didn’t quit. You can keep building from there. And realize that with work and family some runs won’t be great -but others will!
