KB2 - Day 64 - Tough

  • Nov 6th, 2017 at 9:23AM

Just a quick blog. Work has been very tough due to earnings season. I spent much of the three-day weekend working and have been working past midnight the past 4 nights. I missed workouts Wed-Fri and diet was supplemented with potato chips. Stress eating. Salt cravings. Call it what you will, it was completely not acceptable. On Saturday we had lunch out and in lieu of carbs I had the "frites" that came with the steak (there was a limited menu as we were eating "lunch" around 17:00 and the full menu starts at 18:00...my dinner ended up being at 25:40, when I got home.

Three more days of this. I did do two workouts on Sunday, including 40 minutes of skipping in two lots of 20 minutes. But two workouts behind. Trying to decide whether to just move on....but I hate missing more scoops and clockface planks.

Power on everyone.

I was with you till “... I hate missing more scoops and clock face planks.” Those lovelies only entered the training regime after my back incident and so incredibly I will have completed KB2 without ever having done either of these. The last five days seems to have been a Bermuda triangle for many of us. Myself included. My advice? Put what you have not done in the rearview mirror and concentrate on getting the workouts ahead of you just bang on.

That sounds like a brutal schedule. And I sympathize with the salt cravings. Seems like you need to prioritize your sleep just to survive your earnings season. Hang in there! There's still plenty to do after you finish your 3 busy days.

Janet -don't sweat it at all - life and work happens and you've done great so far so don't worry about those chips and frites. Good luck getting the work under control - you can always bust out some scoopies in the office when everyone's at lunch :)

@Deb - too true......"The last five days seems to have been a Bermuda triangle for many of us. "

Don't burn yourself out Janet. You can catch up on scoops and clockface planks when things quiet down over the holidays. Do your best but also get your sleep!

Sounds like a nightmare, but like all nightmares it will be over before you know it and you will wake to a wonderful world of clockface planks and burpees.

Nor knowing what a clock face plank might be I can only imagine the “tragedy” of missing them. Be strong!

@ Elissa - Holidays? Don't think there are any holidays between now and end of KB2! My final two weeks will be spent in Abu Dhabi, Geneva, Paris, London, NY, Boston, Des Moines, KC, Chicago, CT and then the week after it ends in LA, SF and a brief 2 days in HK before I get back to Tokyo! Unfortunately I will be busy prepping for the trip until I leave on the 18th (Sunday is a work day in Abu Dhabi...). But hoping the program keeps me from otherwise imploding (or should I say ballooning!).

Janet, you are a wonderwoman to stay in the game with such a punishing schedule; keep on doing what you can and moving forward.

"but I hate missing more scoops and clockface planks." You've got to be pulling my leg!

Skip the missed workouts and move on!

You've shown time and again on Kenzai that you can give precedence to your fitness and health. And, that you know how to come back to making it a priority after a particularly busy time in your life. And, that's al this is. Ride out the storm keeping your nutrition and exercise going as much as possible and then slip right back into training mode!

When crunchtime hits at work and you stay up so late it takes immense willpower and energy to stay on the diet track! The brain is fully geared up and needs energy, plus solid sleep to recharge and cleanse out toxins. You did the right choice by getting whatever sleep you could over workouts. And those one-off chips/ frites may just have saved your sanity at a time like this! Move on and get mentally ready for that rather insane trip ahead of you. And remind yourself: you are doing very well with your Kenzai lifestyle and in this program!

Ha ! I wasn't going to make the same comment as Thomas about the scoops etc ! I echo these sentiments - don't put too much pressure on yourself.

I’m exhausted just reading about all your travels and work stuff. You are a powerhouse and a huge inspiration to me to keep going no matter what’s going on. There aren’t always good choices when traveling so I’d cut yourself a BIG break regarding the frites and chips.

P.s. - totally relate to you on the stress eating — not so much on missing clockies and scoops! Also, where do you go in CT? I’m from there - Bethel.

@ Meghan - Darien, CT. Next to Stamford, where I was working when we moved to Darien. I keep a townhouse there.
@ Thomas/Sara - I don't LIKE clockies or scoops but I know if I don't build up, then I won't be able to do the higher reps later. Other exercises I know I will have no problems no matter how many reps appear on the menu. At least there are no negatives! :)

Sounds like you are having a really tough week mate. Don't sweat about it too much, just draw a line through it and carry on strong when time allows. Don't fall into the ATM trap. Looking great in your WK8 photo though!

oh, yeah. Hate missing those scoops and clockface planks. ARE YOU KIDDING? Sounds like a murderous work schedule, Janet. Glad you have Kenzai to stay physically active...Hope this stretch is over soon so you can have a life!

Move on! Having played the catch up game a few times I've concluded that it's far better to just get back on the rails again. When I worry about trying to catch up I've found my workouts are less satisfying because there is not real end in sight, and it leads to less focused and intense workouts.

Better to let bygones be bygones and give your full attention to the workout at hand. An exception, and middle ground, may be to squeeze in some extra skipping sessions - these are not as physically and emotionally draining as the resistance sessions (at least for me) and are more suitable for slipping in here and there.

You're looking incredible Janet! Hang in there through the work slog - there's plenty of time to end KB on a strong note!
