Returning to Life

No sooner had I finished the final workout when I got very sick. It started on the Sunday night. I croaked through my Monday meetings, arriving is SF that evening. Monday night I had the sorest throat in memory. I felt there was no way I could get on a 15-hour flight to Hong Kong Tuesday. At 5am I was on the phone with the emergency travel line changing my flight to Tokyo for Wednesday. After my morning meetings, instead of heading to the airport I headed to the walk-in clinic and 2.5 hours later I had a pup,e of prescriptions to fill.

Before heading back to my hotel, I decided to get something to eat. For the first time in about 20 years, I went into McDonalds and ordered a small chocolate shake. Just what my throat needed. I returned to the hotel, slept for 5 hours, was up for 90 minutes and then slept the night. I almost missed my flight Wednesday due to what my taxi driver described as the worst traffic in his 27 years as a driver (due to an accident) but all was well and I was delighted to be heading home finally.

I am now well on my way to recovery after a very relaxed weekend. Saturday I did my first workout since Day 90. Somehow the K-Life workouts seem more challenging than KB 2 workouts. Just 15 minutes of skipping but wow...I can feel the 5 sets of 18 mini squats today.

Today John M and I participated in a 5.5 km run for charity sponsored by financial services companies in Tokyo. Cheered on Sean K in the 9.5km run that came first. Crazy Sean then did the 5.5km run with his son. Glutton for punishment. It was a lovely day for running, sunny, no wind and about 10-12C or just over 50F.

Sure as clockwork my son contacted me to inquire if I were back and invite himself for dinner. I will cook his favorite- lasagna- and send him home with lots of leftovers.

    It was a beautiful day for a run. Maybe there was some mojo in that shake? Doing the 5.5km was really more to get my kid running. I've been working on making him my running partner for awhile, but my body is paying the price right now. It was great to see you and John M, looking forward to next week.

        Sounds like you’re body needed that rest and you handled like a boss! So great to run out the cobwebs that jetlag leaves in the body and brain.

          Superwoman and super mum. Sorry to hear about a sore throat I always have Betadine gargle on hand, it is a miracle worker. Glad you got some 'real' stuff from Dr. and glad to hear you are bouncing back and running 5.5km :)

            Ah Mickey D’s - just what the doctor ordered. I think you should sign up for Kenzai sleep program. Your box ticking will force you to get in the sleep you’ve been missing out on.

              Kenzai sleep program is an interesting idea. Until that appears it is great you listened to your body and allowed yourself to heal. Hope the lasagna was perfect!

                We seem to always catch some bug at airports and planes when traveling. Glad you were able to change your flight and kick it rather quickly! I have not had McD's in forever as well and I give myself a gold medal for have not ever giving it to my kids (yet)... funny how the memories and imagination comes back vividly to the mind just reading about your chocolate shake though.
                Cab rides to the airports can be so stressful. Glad you are home and back to Kenzai Life land. I shall join you too. Long break after KBells have gotten me sluggish and feeling weak!

                  Welcome Back Janet. And glad you've recovered from that nasty bout! Winter in Tokyo is pretty good as far as winter goes (I hate the cold) I have to say. We get a lot more wind and rain where I'm heading. Great to see you back.

                    I bet it's always nice to have your children invite themselves over! Hope you enjoyed the 5.5k. What's the deal with the .5s? I am raring to return to the world of 5ks, 10ks and Halfs. Gonna give KRun a try in the new year. Btw, those are not skinny jeans...those are still my pregnancy jeans. Yes. It's true. I definitely toned up during SkiBoot but must be a trick of the camera that makes those look like skinny jeans! :)

                        @ Jenny - the "0.5" km was the result of the course, which was around the Meiji Picture gallery in Tokyo. Three loops for the 5.5km and 5 loops for the 9.5km....the start was a little shorter I think than the subsequent loops. The course is different than it used to be due to the construction going on for the national stadium for the 2020 Olympics.
