Frustrated with myself!

  • Mar 15th, 2018 at 4:52AM

I have been swamped at work and it is just so challenging this time around. I have been struggling with planning ahead and therefore being unprepared with my food for the day. I have no time to exercise. I went from a 40 hour week to a 60 hour week and just wasn't prepared. I want to make it work...I am a better person all around when I am on program and my eating is on point. I could use some insight on foods that require minimal prep, a grab and go sort of thing that would be helpful. I really want to get my act together, I am frustrated with myself and my lack of time.

Melyssa--you can do this and remember, every decision made that is different/better than what we would have done if not on the program is already progress. As far as food prep, I've been completely saved by pre-chopped mushrooms and the pre-cut zucchini/squash noodles--I can drop those in a skillet, throw in greens, and will add egg/egg whites as prescribed. I'm also pretty partial to avocado topping. I've done these the night before and re-heated, not amazing, but totally doable and edible. One meal at a time, you can do this!

Hey Melyssa, I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated! It is hard when you know what you want to be doing, what you "should" be doing, and feel like you're not doing it. It sounds like it's been a rough time for you this round, and my suggestion is to set a goal for yourself that it challenging and doable. For example, can you have only Kenzai-compliant snacks for the rest of this week? (or) Can all your breakfasts be "Kenzai?" (or) Can you commit to completing the "emergency" workout a certain number of days this week? Setting a goal, making a plan for how you'll meet the goal, and then celebrating your accomplishment, whatever it is, can be really useful. Let us know what your goal is for this week - no goal is too small to celebrate.

Moe has a some great food ideas, and I've seen some nice pre-cut veggies at Trader Joes.

Courageous post. Thanks for asking for help! A couple of suggestions, buddy.

      1. If your best friend approached you, with the same issues, what advice would you give? Write it down. And post it somewhere.
      2. How you begin your day sets the table. Egg. Avocado. Toast. Eat real food if you want real change. If it's not working 6 times a day. Start with one time per day.
      3. Blog about what you are getting right. Maybe you've already done this.
      4. Real talk. Everyone has ten minutes a day. Walk for ten minutes a day. Take a break at work. I have yet to meet a boss that doesn't value an employee who values and makes time for their health.

Great change needs to begin somewhere. Put down the guilt. Put down the story. Your best will be enough.

Huge props for blogging about your struggles Melyssa and boy do I recognise that frustration. You've already got some great advice here. Small sustainable changes are where it starts. Can you think of any to begin with?

I feel you Melyssa, I'm also finding this time around much more of a challenge. I try to do my workouts in the morning as I find that sets the tone for the day (I get up between 5am and 6:30am depending on my work schedule). I always have lots of fresh fruit and an egg white in my bag for easy snacks otherwise I will make a bad choice when hungry. Not long to go now Melyssa but 23 days can make a big difference. We're all here cheering you on!!
