Day 9 - Kbells Intro Blog

  • Apr 16th, 2019 at 8:33AM

1) Where are you in the world and what’s the weather like? I live in HK and current weather condition - humid, grey and about to rain hard (I suspect). Rainy season...
2) Are you training with anyone? Just myself
3) Is this the first time you’ve used kettlebells? If so, what do you think so far? My second kettlebell program. 1st time was last year but I didn’t really commit much last year and did it half a**. This time, trying to follow everything to a T (as much as possible). I enjoy working with the bells and debating to order myself a heavier bell for deadlift. Current one is only 10kg. I feel not enough for deadlift...
4) What question would you like to ask other members (that they can answer on your blog)?
I am curious how heavy are your kettlebells? How many k-bells are you guys using?

I remember those humid days in HK!
I have 2 kettlebells and thank goodness I do. I bought one at 20lbs and at the last minute picked up another one at 10lbs. Turns out I use the lighter one most often - especially today with those 1 arm tricep ski-jumper things. I use the heavier one for deadlifts and will try it out more when I get stronger.

      Hi Rouella
Good to be training with you.

Agree that this weather has been less than inspiring. Hopefully it turns around for the weekend.

I’m about 96 kilos and I got 20/16/8 bells. I think it would have been ideal to get a 12 too. I’m using 16 and 8 for majority of exercises and the 20 for deadlifts

      Have a good week

Hi Rouella, I am in HK too and yes the weather has been crap recently! God questions re the bells - my wife likes to buy multiples of EVERYTHING so when we did bells together she bought 9 or the bloody things, from 5lbs to 30lbs. I use about 4 of them, and like the others, for the ski jumper one you need a lighter one to do it with. I would like one bigger than 30lbs for the deadlifts but dare not mention it to the wife otherwise she will probably purchase another 6!

Mine are 4 and 8kg which is about right for my frame (60kg) and the fact that i’ve not used weights in a while. It’s tempting to go heavier than you need to but really it’s more important to focus on technique and of course diet!

Thanks guys for the advice on the kettlebell weights. @Mark you made me laugh about your comment on your wife buying multiples of everything (that sounds like me) 😂
I am looking at ordering a heavier one at 16kg for deadlift and a lighter one at 4kg.

I had no idea what I was doing, so I bought 3. The 30 llb is my go to for most exercises. The 20 llb I use for some of the lighter one arm stuff. I haven't used the 10 llb one yet, I think I will probably use it as a door stopper.
