IRON D66 - Knowing when it's just enough

  • Nov 22nd, 2017 at 3:57PM

Ever had one of those days where you have gone too heavy on Biceps and end up walking around with T-Rex arms? Yeah me too. I am starting to get a better understanding of how hard to push on the weights, without screwing myself up completely.

Legs for example. Quite funny. I got hold of an olympic bar, so can now do quite a lot of the exercises without going to the gym. When it came to legs (no squat rack at home) I realised that I have to do extra just to get the bar on my shoulders.
Beginning of set = Bicep curl, then military press, then gently lower to the back of neck.
End of set = all the above in reverse.

I swore a lot.

But the above meant that I could not go as heavy as I would in the gym. Result - nice soreness in the legs, but not so much that I was doing a Manjit and his John Wayne impression.

By the way - those chest plates squeeze things - burn like a bitch at the end eh!

Ha! I do that to my biceps way too often. Last time - a couple months ago - I was discussing it with friends - that can't straighten my arms without pulling them problem. Apparently they don't do that. Didn't even know what I was talking about. Not sure if that means they're smarter or we're tougher?

    Just when I stop walking like JW, it’s legs day again! But tell me the soreness perversely doesn’t make you happy?!!

      @Elissa - Bicep Day tomorrow.....T-Rex time! (it's obviously because we are tougher!)
      @Manjit - Yeah man - 7 day recovery right?

        I'm doing the same thing with those leg sessions. It's nice to have a good burn/soreness to the legs with a moderate amount of weight, versus having useless legs for a few days in a row after hitting max weight.

                The chest plate squeeze things are indeed deceptive! And I'm jealous man, I got to get some weight for home!

                And T-Rex arms? Yeah, been there! haha

                  It's pretty easy to over do it with weights. You heeding any type of caution is a bit of a revelation, Scott! Good show, man. It certainly isn't hurting your results. Looking good in that new photo.

                  Now, those Chest Plate Squeeze moves might be my favorite exercise in the regime. Can't do a 25lbs plate. I've tried. Can't get to the bottom of the rep window...yet!

                  2 ten pounders pushed together works though. Fun stuff.
